International Women's Day

Today is International Women's Day.  Begun back in the early 1900's, this day recognizes the achievements of women past, present, and future.

From the original suffragettes to Third World micro-business owners today, women have been and are capable of incredible things.  Advancements have been made in the social, political, and economic sectors around the world.  International Women's Day is now a national holiday in Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, China (for women only), Cuba, Georgia, Guinea-Bissau, Eritrea, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Madagascar (for women only), Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Nepal (for women only), Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Zambia.  Notice, however, that the list contains only two of the so-called "Super Powers"...Russia and China.

To learn more about International Women's Day, go to:  http://internationalwomensday.com/about.asp

While there, see if there is an event in your area to celebrate this day.  If you can't attend or participate in an event, you can always give a shout out on twitter using the hashtag:  #womensday.

To make the day personal, recognize an amazing woman in your life!
